ROAD CYCLING ROUTES

 

 

Below we offer you a total of 14 routes where you can enjoy your road bike in the area of Castelló. A few kilometres from the hotel you can enjoy the Alto del Desierto de las Palmas, climbed several times on the Vuelta a España. Below you can see the relevant data of the route or also download the corresponding GPX.


 

ROUTE 1: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - MAS DE LA COSTA

A hard route with the route of stage 17 of the Tour of Spain 2016 in which for the first time the Mas de la Costa was climbed, a short but hard pass with impossible ramps. Before reaching this colossus located in Lucena del Cid, you will have to climb Alto del Desierto de la Palmas (2nd Cat), Alto de la Serratella (2nd Cat) and Alto de Benasal (3rd Cat). It is a beautiful route that goes into the interior of the Province of Castellón and we recommend you to make a good cassette about 32T.


 

ROUTE 2: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - VISTABELLA (PENYAGOLOSA)

Itinerant route departing from the coast and arriving at the heart of Penyagolosa Natural Park. In total 162 km of contrasting landscapes, climbing the Alto del Remolcador and the Coll del Vidre with arrival at Vistabella, a small and beautiful municipality located in the interior of Castellón in the middle of the Penyagolosa massif.


 

ROUTE 3: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - SIERRA DE ESPADÁN (MATET/VILLAMALUR)

A circular route for experienced cyclists that goes through the heart of the Sierra de Espadán and climbs 5 hills of different categories and difficulty. Depending on the direction of the route, you will find Collado de Ayodar (3rd Cat, 4 km at 5.6%), Alto del Pinar (2nd Cat, 11.87 km at 4.5%), Alto de Villamalur (4th Cat, 2.35 km at 6.8%), Alto de Matet (3rd Cat, 2.67 km at 7%), Alto de la Nevera (3rd Cat, 4 km at 5.4%) and Alto de Aín (4th Cat, 2.32 km at 4.3%).


 

ROUTE 4: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - CASTELLÓN INTERIOR

A circular route with an easy start, passing by one of the most important water reserves in the Province of Castellón, the Sitjar Reservoir. The difficulty increases when we reach Fanzara, where we will start to climb until we reach Lucena del Cid in descent after crowning the Alto del Remolcador by its shorter slope. The way back is much more favourable with a lot of ground on the way down and some steep slopes.


 

ROUTE 5: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - CASTELLÓN INTERIOR II

A circular route that in its first part runs along the coast until it reaches Oropesa del Mar where we will look for the only port on the route, Alto de Cabanes, which connects the coast with the interior. Then a stretch of straight road with a slight positive slope until we reach a last area of slopes that will take us to Atzeneta. On the way back you will come across a small hill known as the Coll de la Bassa but with little difficulty.


 

ROUTE 6: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - SIERRA DE ESPADÁN CLASSIC

This is a circular route and one of the usual routes for many cycling groups in Castelló that goes into the Serra d'Espadá Natural Park. As usual from the start the terrain is uphill, first crowning the Port of Aín from Tales (2aCat, 10.15 km, at 3.4%), then the Port of Eslida (3aCat, 4.57 km at 6.2%) and finally the Alto del Matianet (4aCat, 2.20 km at 4.2%). The route has a pleasant descent from the Marianet to Nules where the terrain becomes flat and the wind usually blows against it.


 

ROUTE 7: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - ATZENETA INTERIOR

Circular route through the interior of the province of Castellón with the typical profile of the mountains in this area. Landscape characterized by the low mountain that changes to scattered pine forests in the interior zone. During the route we will find several peaks but only the Coll de Costur and the Coll de la Bassa are worth mentioning.


 

ROUTE 8: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - DESIERTO DE LAS PALMAS

91 km road cycling route with a total ascent of 1,121 positive meters. It runs through towns such as Borriol, La Pobla de Tornesa, Cabanes, Oropesa and the beautiful Desert of Las Palmas through the town of Benicàssim before returning to Castellón. The desert is 7.2 kilometres long and has an average percentage of 5.2%. The incredible landscape makes everyone fall in love. It is a demanding climb, especially the first 3 kilometres, and more so from kilometre 3 onwards. After the climb, we return along the coast to the starting point.


 

ROUTE 9: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - VALL D'ALBA

Circular route along the coast along the Vía Verde de Banicàssim - Oropesa to climb the Puerto de Cabanes from Torre La Sal (2aCat, 9.23 km at 3.9%). A pleasant return route along the road parallel to the Puerto de Cabanes through pine trees and farmland.


 

ROUTE 10: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA – VALL D’UIXÓ

This 86 kilometre route mostly runs along cycle paths, making our journey safer. It is mostly flat although it has several slopes. An easy route that runs mostly through coastal towns.


 

ROUTE 11: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - DESIERTO DE LAS PALMAS II

A pleasant circular route, mostly on flat ground. We start by travelling along the coast along the cycle path and greenway that links Grao de Castellón, Benicàssim and Oropesa until Torre la Sal, where we turn around to return and climb the Alto del Desierto de las Palmas through Benicàssim (2aCat, 7.47 km at 5.2%). Once at the top, we will descend to finish the route.


 

ROUTE 12: VINAROZ - HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA

This is a low-difficulty route with a total ascent of 330 metres. Starting from the Hotel del Golf Playa, the entire route runs practically along the coast of Castellón, touching the Serra d'Irta Natural Park and passing through towns such as Oropesa del Mar, Torreblanca, Peñíscola or Benicarló until it reaches Vinaroz, a town known for its exquisite prawns and rice dishes.


 

ROUTE 13: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - DESIERTO DE LAS PALMAS

Route of 44 kilometres and 524 metres of positive height difference. Leaving from Grao de Castellón, we will head towards the city centre to go to the Desierto de las Palmas. A port between Castellón and Benicàssim of 7.8 kilometres and with an average gradient of 4.7%. Road in good condition and with incredible views. The descent is more technical and has several horseshoes. We will reach Benicàssim to return to the starting point. A highly recommended route for people who are just starting out in cycling.


 

ROUTE 14: HOTEL DEL GOLF PLAYA - PLAYA DE ALMENARA

Itinerant route with an almost completely flat route with some slopes that runs along the coast until you reach Almenara.
